Alexandra Baker - Basketball
Alex's progress in Basketball has been very quick, after joining Brighton Cougars at age 13 she has worked her way through County and Regional levels and was invited by England coaches to attend the Under 16's Women's Squad. She has represented England at U15's level and has now been selected for the England U16's which she starts training for soon. Her club is the Sevenoaks Suns where she plays in the U16 and U18 National Leagues. Alex is hoping to be selected to represent GB at the European Championships in 2017.
Amber Ranson - Swimming
Amber swims for Atlantis in Horsham and last year was unbeaten in competition. Swimming at the Winter County Championships she entered 11 races, won 11 golds, set 11 PBs and gained 9 regional qualifying times all at just 11 years of age. She is ranked 4th in the country for 100 metre backstroke and is in the top 5-10 of many other distances and strokes. Amber has been selected by the ASA to attend a regional training camp, the first step of England pathway training. In addition to her swimming Amber also takes part in Pentathlons, Triathlons and Duathlons.
Caitlin MacGregor - Trampolining
Caitlin started trampolining at aged 3 at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre. She quickly progressed and at age 7 joined a local club. Caitlin has worked up through the levels competing at Regional and now National levels. Cailtin now trains and competes fro Edgebarrow Trampolining Club based in Bracknell and is part of their Junior Development Squad. Caitlin has made this years National Finals both as an individual and also in the Synchro and is also competing internationally for Edgebarrow and for Team Wales where at a recent competition in Austria she made the finals and came 6th in the age 13-14 category.
Harry Baker - Athletics
Harry only started High Jumping in the Autumn of 2015 when he won a school competition. He quickly joined Horsham Bluestars and is trained independently by a National Coach. In his first season he won several gold medals and titles including U17 Sussex champion and U17 Sussex Schools champion. He jumped a PB of 1.93m putting him 9th in the UK rankings in just his first season. This year Harry has set his sights on cross the 2m height and is hoping to represent England at the World Junior Championships.
Isabella Hayes - Biathlon/Triathlon
Isabella competes in Triathlon and Biathlon events training locally with Atlantis for her swimming and Horsham BlueStars for her running. She has recently joined Preston Park cycle club to help with the cycling elements of her competitions. Isabella is a member of the South East Regional team for Triathlon and part of the Great Britain Biathle team. She won Bronze and Silver medals at the World Biathle Championships in Florida, won the worlds largest junior triathlon event at Hever Castle in September and was ranked 2nd at the GB biathlon qualification competition. Next year Isabella hopes to be ranked number 1 in GB Biathlon and continue her training with the regional triathlon team.
Izzy Hillard - Gymnastics
Izzy has been training in Gymnastics since age 4. Originally based at Horsham she has now moved to Leatherhead to further her training which is now up to 25 hours a week. She is on the elite pathway and is part of the England National Squad attending regular training camps with other girls from across the UK of a similar standard. Izzy represented England at the Leverkusen Cup in Germany where they won team Silver and was also Junior South East Regional Champion in 2016. Izzy has been re-selected for the England squad and is working towards the English Championships in March/April 2017.
Joshua Tavolieri - Basketball
Joshua plays for Horsham Hawks and last season won the U13 League and Cup finals. Joshua also plays for Sussex Bear on the county stage and is part of the SE Regional Boys U13 team who became England National Champions in 2016. Joshua has done so well that he has been invited to attend the South East Regional Performance Centre which is the first stepping stone towards selection for the English national team. Joshua is hoping to be selected to play for England Internationally and would like to play college basketball in the States.
Katy Bedwin - Endurance Horse Riding
Katy initially started out competing in show jumping, dressage and eventing as part of the local Pony Club. After taking part in a 20 mile sponsored charity event she fell in love with endurance riding and hasn't looked back. In 2012 she was invited to join the Great Britain Young Riders squad for U21's at only aged 14 and was the youngest rider on the team by a long way. She has remained part of this team each year since competing Internationally, this year she is working towards the World Championships in Italy for which she has already qualified with 2 horses.
Kristina Pavlou - Judo
Kristina took part in her first Sussex trials at aged 8 and won gold, she has since held the title for 6 years. Kristina has been selected for the Sussex Judo Squad, the Southern Area Squad and the England Judo Squad, training and competing regularly for all 3. In 2016 Kristina was part of the Southern Area U15 team that won the National Team Championships and came 5th whilst representing England at the Venray International event. In 2016 Kristina was ranked 1st in the British Judo Ippon league for most number of wins by Ippon (instant win, highest scoring).
Lillie Franks - Athletics
A member of the Crawley Athletics club Lillie trains and competes in High Jump. Lillie finished the 2016 season jumping 1m 73cm and is currently ranked 4th in the UK at U17 level. She is also Sussex Champion and Silver medallist for the South East Regional area and won Bronze at the English Schools. In 2017 she aims to jump 1m 78cm which will enable her to be considered for Commonwealth and European Championships.
Seb Wallace - Athletics
Seb takes part in many events including long jump, high jump, hurdles, 100m and particularly enjoys the Pentatlon. Last year he won the Pentatlon at the Surrey & Sussex County event coming first in long jump and high jump and second in the hurdles. He's ranked 2nd in the UK for Pentatlon, just one point behind the first place athlete and 4th in the UK for long jump and 7th for High Jump. Seb wants to continue to represent Sussex and improve to represent the UK, one day hoping to be a Junior Olympian.
Matthew O'Dwyer - Athletics
Matthew has only been competing in Athletics for 18 months and in 2016 was ranked number 1 in the UK for U13's Long Jump after putting in a whopping 5.44m jump at the end of the season. Matthew is desperate to become the next Greg Rutherford and spends all his spare time and money on his training. In addition to his long jump Matthew also competes in the 200m and has been making good progress setting PBs and moving up to 22nd in the UK rankings. Longer term Matthew wants to compete in the Olympics as either a long jumper or multi-eventer.
